Scenic Drives

The Tennessee Overhill is blessed with scenic drives where the breathtaking color explosion in the fall and spring stretch as far as the eye can see.
Ocoee Scenic Byway
U.S. Hwy. 64/F.S. Road 77
First National Forest Scenic By-Way in the United States. Consists of 26 miles of highway that winds alongside the Ocoee River and up to the Chilhowee Campground on Forest Service Road #77. The highway passes through scenic areas dominated by rock bluffs, mountain peaks, and historic sites such as the Ocoee Flume Line and Powerhouses, Confederate Camp, and Old Copper Road. The panoramic views from the Chilhowee Overlooks and Boyd Gap are favorites of photographers.

  Tellico River Rd.
Hwy. 165 to F.S. Road 210
Follow the Tellico River up to beautiful Bald River Falls, where you can park to view the falls or hike to the top for a picnic. Near the end of F.S. Road 210 is located the Pheasant Fields Fish Rearing Pools, where visitors can see large brood trout up close.

Cherohala Skyway
Tellico-Robbinsville Road to Hwy. 165
This 51 mile spectacular road passes crystal-clear rivers, climbs some of the highest peaks in the Southern Appalachian Mtns., and has been declared a National Scenic Byway and a National Forest Scenic Byway. On the Tennessee side wind through the forest to Indian Boundary Lake and Campground, then continue to Stratton Gap at the TN/NC line.

Hiwassee River Road
Hwy. 30/F.S. Road 108
Sun-dappled forests surround Hwy. 30 as it follows the Hiwassee River to Reliance. Cross the bridge and turn onto F.S. Road 108 to climb the mountain to Big Bend and Appalachia Powerhouse for a spectacular view of the river.

This winding road takes you through beautiful farmland and rolling hills until you reach the town of Tellico Plains.
