Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) Spring Session Orientation

This orientation introduces participants and families to the Tennessee Overhill Jam program and its teaching model, based on the JAM approach to group music education. The session explains how students learn music by playing together, developing listening skills, rhythm, teamwork, and confidence in a supportive group setting.

Orientation covers program structure, grade and skill groupings, weekly flow, expectations, and how students progress through guided ensemble play rather than through one-on-one lessons. Participants will meet instructors, review instruments used, and learn how the jam environment supports musical growth and community connection.

The program is open to 4th–11th grade students in McMinn and Polk counties.
This orientation is required for new participants and strongly recommended for returning students.
